The main difference is that a Psychologist can diagnose and a Psychotherapist cannot. A Psychologist has a doctorate degree or its equivalent whereas a psychotherapist has a master’s degree or its equivalent.
I am If you do not need a diagnosis or assessment, you may not need a Psychologist. A Psychotherapist is an excellent, affordable alternative to a Psychologist.
Though most insurance providers you will be able to see a Psychotherapist under the supervision of a Psychologist. Please check with your Insurance company
No you do not need a referral.
Some of the reasons a child may need an assessment include but isn’t limited too:
- To find out whether your child has a special learning need.
- To identify your child’s current capabilities, skills, and needs.
- To find out how those special learning needs affect your child’s ability to learn and function in school.
- To identify appropriate programming and services that will meet your child’s individual needs.
In some instances, we are able to arrange direct billing, and at other times, we provide you with a receipt as proof of payment that you submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
