We have been offering reunification therapy for many years, as an alternative to stressful and expensive court proceedings for families involved in divorce/conflict. Typically, one or more children from a family will refuse contact with a parent, usually the one that has left the matrimonial home. Early intervention and support is strongly recommended if children have difficulty adjusting to parental separation/divorce. Please contact Ms. Maria directly ( email@example.com ). This is a time and cost effective way of getting experienced clinical opinion on a range of ordinary, and sometimes not so ordinary, life situations. For example:
• Families Living in Separate Homes: We assist parents separate from each other, but not their children. This is for families that are amicable in their separation. This is a coaching process where parents are guided about what to say to their children, when and how. Each family is unique and each child is unique. We assist parents in optimizing their children’s adjustment to what is potentially an extremely adverse childhood event. It really doesn’t have to be. We truly believe that this is a good investment in the long term stability and adjustment of families transitioning through separation and divorce.
• Psychological-Legal: Dr. DeCunha provides clinical consultation for complex situations that require the consideration of psychological diagnosis, psychological impact or outcome and treatment recommendations. These consultations are typically requested by Counsel representing their clients in Family or Civil court.
Yoga is a truly remarkable physical and mental exercise for people of all ages, body shapes and abilities. Yoga is an ancient method of physical and mental exercise that promotes strengthening and lengthening of the body, the outcome of which is a feeling of deep relaxation and alleviation of physical and mental discomfort. While practised for thousands of years in Eastern cultures, this form of mental and physical exercise has exploded in popularity in Western cultures. The reason for this is that “it works” by integrating body, mind and spirit.
Yoga therapy is part of most major trauma intervention programs across North America. The therapeutic benefits to a wide range of individuals is no longer in dispute. Adults who have experienced trauma, such as our veterans or first responders, survivors of significant injuries or those with complex trauma, often report a reduction in emotional reactivity, reduction in pain/physical discomfort, and a general improvement in feelings of well-being. Various sources of research showed that yoga can help build self-confidence and self-esteem, enhance attention and concentration, increase self awareness and self discipline, enhance creativity and improve interpersonal and self regulation abilities.
This is still an experimental program that requires the involvement and support of your physician. Early results (Stage II Clinical Trials) of world-wide experimental data appear to be exceptionally promising, such that the American Food and Drug Agency (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) have designated this still experimental procedure, “Breakthrough Therapy”. This means that this intervention shows more promising outcomes then therapies currently available for a number of serious psychological disorders such as PTSD, (Treatment Resistant) Depression or Anxiety. Please note that Health Canada has not made the same declaration, though Stage 2 Clinical Trials are being initiated. Please contact Dr. DeCunha directly for more information.
This is our gift to you.
